Lumiere Romford Logo

Welcome to Lumiere Romford, your ultimate destination for an unforgettable cinema experience at The Mercury Shopping Centre in Romford. As the latest addition to Romford’s entertainment scene, Lumiere brings a fresh and modern approach to movie-going, while also celebrating the things we love from yesteryear. Lumiere is one of the few cinemas in the UK that will be championing the past as much as the present.

Lumiere is a unique community co-operative that will be under continual rebirth until 2028 - with new screens, new seating and decor, plus comfortable and safe spaces for community groups to gather. But we won't just be showing films and event cinema; we have plans for live music, comedy, theatre, social clubs and other events too!

Description

ACCESSIBLE SCREENINGS

As a charity and community-focused organisation, our aim at Lumiere Romford is to make the love of cinema accessible to everybody.

To this end, we offer the following regular screening sessions to our patrons:

RELAXED SCREENINGS (NEURODIVERGENT AND DEMENTIA-FRIENDLY)

WHAT: These sessions are aimed at providing a friendly, relaxed and welcoming atmosphere for those who are neurodivergent or have dementia.

The volume is turned down to a comfortable and tested level, the auditorium lights are on mid-level, and subtitles are displayed on-screen.

WHEN: Every Tuesday, a morning screening for pre-school children and a lunchtime one for adults, then an afterschool session for school-aged children.

Plus, we are introducing a Sunday morning session too for families.

. These are usually new releases, but we also occasionally show classic films in these sessions.

HOW: All Relaxed screenings are clearly indicated by a tag on the daily listings section on our website - look out for the "Relaxed Adult Screening" or "Relaxed Family Screening" tags in the Tuesday showtimes.

DEAF OR HARD-OF-HEARING

WHAT AND WHEN:  Our aim is always to have at least one weekly screening of each new release, accompanied by open captioned subtitles (OCAP) displayed on screen.

In the future, we hope to receive funding for glasses that display customisable subtitles to the wearer.

HOW: All subtitled screenings are clearly indicated by a tag on the daily listings section on our website - look out for the "HOH (hard of hearing)" tag in the daily showtimes.
