TCES National Online School

The National Online School
The National Online School (NOS) is an alternative online SEND provision that provides specialist therapeutic education to neurodiverse students with special educational needs typically associated with autism spectrum condition (ASC), social, emotional and mental health (SEMH) needs, and associated disorders.
Our therapeutic approach nurtures and supports students in finding their talents and skills and gives them the best opportunities for positive social, emotional, and academic outcomes. We never exclude students; we never give up on them.
The National Online School offers a full curriculum and therapeutic support to children and young people aged 9 to 25 who cannot attend school. This can be for a variety of reasons and can be linked to school anxiety, special educational needs, emotionally based school avoidance (EBSA), or where a current school isn't meeting needs. Students attending our school typically have an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP), but we also support those who are either at the start of the EHCP process or without an EHCP.
We offer the core subjects of English, Maths and Science, plus additional subjects. We can support students in taking GCSEs and A levels, including providing invigilators in the family home where needed. Our experienced and qualified therapy team offers speech and language, occupational therapy and creative arts psychotherapy (Music, Art, and Drama Therapy) based on our assessments of each child's needs.
The National Online School approach
Our team works collaboratively with each student and their family (plus the school and Local Authority, where appropriate). Depending on the proposed outcome for the student, we can support students back into education following an initial 12 weeks of therapeutic education and psychoeducation, which supports reintegration. Or we can support as a viable long-term alternative to mainstream schools.

- Referral Details
Our National Online School primarily supports students with SEND needs, including those with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) difficulties and Autism Spectrum Conditions (ASC). Many of these students have an existing Education, Health, and Care Plan (EHCP).
Referrals typically come from the Special Educational Needs (SEN) or Education, Health and Care (EHC) teams within a child’s local authority.
To initiate a placement, we require a formal referral from the local authority or school which is responsible for approving and funding the placement.
Following this, our Clinical Team will conduct a thorough assessment to determine if we can meet the student’s specific needs. Based on the assessment, we will provide the referrer with either a rationale or an offer of placement.

PRIVATELY FUNDED PLACEMENTS
Placements at the National Online School can be privately funded, although this is rare. These placements are treated the same as those funded by local authorities, and the same referral process applies. The referrer would be considered the party funding the placement.
