Cyclical Vomiting Syndrome Association
The Cyclical Vomiting Syndrome Association is a charity which aims to provide patients & families support, provide information and promote research into CVS.
CVS can affect people of any age and onset can be at any age. Sufferers experience baseline health interspersed with episodes of intense nausea and vomiting, typically lasting a few days but it can be more severe in extreme cases. Vomiting can occur up to 6 times per hour. It is the most severe vomiting condition known. Attacks are stereotypic, generally the same for any given individual, but frequency of attacks varies, with some having attacks every few weeks and others with longer gaps between episodes.
Treatment can help most sufferers with their symptoms, but can take time to establish. There are no laboratory diagnostic tests for CVS. Diagnosis is via the ROME criteria (see website) and exclusion of other causes.
