SEND service

The SEND Early Years Support Service (SEND EYSS) is pleased to announce a comprehensive and engaging series of workshops designed exclusively for parent carers of children under 5 in Havering with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND). Our workshops go beyond information-sharing—they offer hands-on, practical support, interactive activities, and opportunities for parents to ask questions and receive tailored advice from our experienced specialist advisors.

Each session focuses on providing relevant, easy-to-implement strategies, up-to-date resources, and expert insights to empower families in nurturing their child's development. We are committed to creating a welcoming, inclusive, and collaborative environment where families can connect, share experiences, and build a supportive network within the community.

Participants will benefit from:

  • Direct access to SEND experts and advisors
  • Practical demonstrations and real-life examples
  • Opportunities to connect and learn from other families on similar journeys

Our aim is to ensure that every parent leaves with clear, actionable knowledge and renewed confidence to support their child’s unique needs. Whether you are looking for guidance on a specific challenge or seeking to broaden your understanding of SEND support, our workshops are designed to be engaging and informative.

Description

Join us for an informative and supportive workshop all about understanding your child’s senses and how you can use Sensory Circuits to help them feel calm, focused, and ready to learn.

We’ll explain what sensory needs are and why some children might find certain noises, lights, or textures tricky. You’ll discover how Sensory Circuits—simple, fun activities—can be a helpful way to support your child at home or in school.

What will we talk about?

Our goal is to help you understand what your child likes or dislikes through their senses (such as touch, sound, or movement). We’ll show you easy ways to use Sensory Circuits to help your child feel comfortable, calm, and able to join in with family life or learning at school.

• Understanding the senses – Learn what each of the senses are and why some children react differently to sights, sounds, and other sensations.

• Sensory seekers and sensory avoiders – Find out how to spot your child’s sensory preferences and what these mean for daily life.

• Why use Sensory Circuits? – Discover the benefits of these fun, active routines for children with SEND.

• How to set up Sensory Circuits – Get step-by-step guidance and practical tips to try at home or in school.

• Helpful resources – Take away ideas and materials to make your own Sensory Circuits.

• Evaluating impact – Learn how to notice the positive changes in your child.

How will this session help my child and me?

By the end of this workshop, you’ll feel more confident about understanding your child’s sensory needs and know how to use Sensory Circuits to help them feel calm, focused, and happy. You’ll be ready to support your child at home or work with their school to make each day a little easier and more enjoyable.
