Cakeybakeydoodaa, founded in 2020, is a pioneering day opportunity programme that empowers adults (18+) with disabilities and/or autism to build essential life skills and social skills through the joy of cooking and baking.

Our workshops provide safe, inclusive, and creative environments where participants can learn practical skills, develop independence, and strengthen confidence while connecting with others. By centring food as both a tool for learning and a medium for community, Cakeybakeydoodaa transforms everyday activities into opportunities for growth, friendship, and self-expression.

As one of the few organisations in Havering dedicated to combining culinary arts with disability inclusion, we play a vital role in reducing isolation, promoting wellbeing, and equipping participants with skills that extend far beyond the kitchen.

Description

What a Day Looks Like at Cakeybakeydoodaa

Warm welcome: Participants arrive to a table set with hot and cold drinks, fresh fruit, and pastries. This creates a relaxed space to catch up, share stories, and talk through the day ahead. Cooking together: The group collectively agrees on a dish to prepare for lunch. Everyone takes part in preparing and cooking, learning practical skills along the way. Restaurant -style dining: Participants set the table as if in a restaurant, then sit together to enjoy the meal. This is also the moment to decide what to cook next time, encouraging planning and collaboration. Shared responsibility: After lunch, everyone contributes to clearing up — washing, drying, tidying, and hoovering — reinforcing independence and teamwork. Creative baking: The day ends with preparing a cake, bread, or biscuits. Each participant takes home what they’ve made, proud to share their creations with family or housemates.

Cakeybakeydoodaa demonstrates measurable impact: reducing isolation, building independence, and strengthening community cohesion. For participants and families, it offers warmth, creativity, and a safe space where every achievement — from setting a table to baking bread — is celebrated.

Beyond the weekly sessions, we offer optional community activities that extend learning and friendships: Sunday Social: Once a month, the Crew collectively chooses a local outing, whether it’s a restaurant, golf, bowling, or another fun activity for a couple of hours of shared enjoyment. Residential Bake-Off. Once a year, we host a special Weekend residential experience at Lambourne End, where participants cook, bake, and bond in a supportive environment, with the goal to become Bake-Off Champion of the year.

Both the Sunday Social and Residential Bake-Off are optional, giving participants the freedom to join in at their own pace.
