This provision is for Adults with a Learning Disability who are interested in acquiring practical skills training in Horticulture and Grounds Maintenance, or who enjoy working in an outdoor environment.  The project is based in a controlled, tranquil environment, working in a small team with a ratio of 4:1 (client: supervisor)

Notes

Those currently accessing our project are eligible for a Direct Payment/Personal Budget which is wholly or partially used to cover the placement fee of £67.92/day, the service is invoiced 4-weekly.  Attendees are provided with the required Personal Protective Equipment, Shaw Trust Branded Uniform, ongoing Health & Safety Training, and on-going supervision/training in the activities undertaken on site. 

 The types of activities that the participants engage in includes:

  • Pruning
  • Raking
  • Weeding
  • Watering – using a watering can,
  • Moss Removal
  • Litter Picking
  • Waste Removal
  • Removal of dead floral tributes
  • Composting
  • Planting out
  • Tool Maintenance

Our project provides structure and routine, with a vast amount of the activities being repetitive. 

Our project operates 50 weeks for the year, and we’re closed on bank holidays and Christmas.

Our hub is based at the rear of the crematorium, with a small kitchenette.  Public Washroom facilities on site.

All Personal Protective Equipment provided to our attendees, Branded Shaw Trust Uniform (where applicable), Frequent Health & Safety Training provided and group work activities. 

We do not provide 1:1 support

We do not provide personal care due to the nature of our working environment.

We do not provide support with transportation to and from our provision.
