Training and Advice for Parent Carers
Our Advisory Teachers offer guidance to help parents and carers support their child’s development.
We offer a range of training sessions and workshops—both online and in-person—on key topics such as communication and play, sensory circuits, using visuals, signing and symbols, an introduction to Autism, the EHCP process, and practical learning strategies.
Parent Advice Support Clinic – an opportunity for parents and carers to speak directly with a specialist and receive tailored advice and support for their child’s unique needs.
Early Bird – If your child has recently received an autism diagnosis, this programme is designed especially for families with children under 5. Learn more about autism and discover practical ways you can support your child at home and in everyday life.
Monthly drop-in for parent carers of children with social communication and interaction difficulties – This monthly event is held at My Place on Thursday mornings.
Toilet Training Workshop – Please refer to the downloads section for further details about this practical and supportive workshop.
For further information, please email SENDearlyyears@havering.gov.uk and include your child’s name and date of birth. We are happy to answer your queries and provide any additional support you may need.
Childcare providers can also access training and guidance from our Advisory Teacher team, enabling them to better understand and support each child’s individual needs. Training is available via the Havering Education Portal, or bespoke sessions can be arranged directly with the SEND Early Years team to suit your setting's needs.
