Havering SEND Information Advice and Support Service (SENDIASS)

Havering SENDIASS (Special Educational Needs and Disability Information, Advice and Support Service) work at arm’s length from the Local Authority and provides free, impartial and confidential information, advice and support on SEND matters relating to education, health and social care. We offer support to Havering parents'/carers' of children with SEND aged 0-16 years and also directly to young people aged 16-25 years with SEND who have self-referred.  We can support young people via their parents/carers if the young person would prefer this option (and if they give their consent) or if the young person lacks mental capacity.

We are a self-referral service so service users must contact us directly if they would like to access our service.

Havering SENDIASS can:

  • provide free, impartial advice and information on SEND topics such as:
  • SEND law and legislation
  • Local SEND policies and processes
  • SEND related issues
  • SEND Support in schools
  • Education, Health and Care plans and processes
  • Mediation and SENDIST Tribunal appeals
  • Disagreements and complaint procedures
  • Accompanying parents/carers/young people to appropriate meetings that are within our remit in order to support service users and ensure their views are communicated effectively. (Case officer attendance at meetings also depends on availability)*
  • Liaise with other professionals if appropriate and with consent of the service user. (Consent is not required for safeguarding concerns)
  • Assist and empower parents/carers and young people to make informed decisions on a range of SEND related issues. Please note that we cannot make decisions for you.
  • Signpost parents/carers and young people to relevant services such as support groups and professional agencies

 * The service provides support via a blended approach which could include emails, telephone and attendance at meetings either face-to-face or virtually if appropriate.

Please note that SENDIASS endeavour to respond to enquires within a 5 working day time frame, but this may vary based on individual cases or during busy periods.
