Young Carer Support at Birchfield's Primary School

We are committed to gaining the Young Carers schools award
We are dedicated as a school in identifying Young Carers and supporting them and their families.
We have held a whole school assembly to help raise the profile of Young Carers which has helped us to identify new Young Carers.
We have sent out a letter on the school app to parents to open up strength based conversations with families who may have Young Carers and need support.
We have promoted Young Carers through whole school 'Thought of the day' discussions in class.
We have a dedicated display board for staff member with information about identifying Young Carers.
We have a Young Carers display board with information about support they can access.
We hold twice termly Young Carer meetings where the children have the opportunity to talk to us and each other.
Our Young Carers have access to breakfast club and after schools clubs.
We offer a homework club where our Young Carers can go during the school day to complete homework in a quiet space.
We have Young Carer Champions across the school that children can speak to at any time.
Our Young carer team work closely with our Family Liaison to access families that need access to Early Help.
We work closely with our feeder schools to ensure the children have a smooth transition.
We are in the process of inviting outside agencies to provide additional support to our children.
We are in the process of completing the Young Carer action booklets to better understand how we can support them.
