What is Manchester SPACE?

Manchester SPACE is a specialist support service for children and young people who have experienced domestic violence and abuse and are living in interim accommodation. We provide free and confidential support to children and young people from birth to eighteen who are accommodated by Manchester City Council as a result of fleeing domestic abuse and violence.

How can we help?

Manchester SPACE is provided by the independent charity Victim Support. We provide a safe, supportive space where young people can talk, be heard, and begin to make sense of what they have experienced – at their own pace. We will listen with compassion, and tailor our support to the children and young people we support. Our support can focus on:

Their Safety – helping children and young people feel safer by exploring options to support their personal safety and emotional wellbeing.

Their rights – Sharing clear, age-appropriate information about what to expect, what support is available, and what their rights are.

Their wellbeing – Listening to how their experiences had affected them and offering non-judgemental support and reassurance.

Their ways of coping – Supporting children and young people to explore and understand their feelings and providing tools and strategies to help them cope.

Their support network – Helping children and young people to connect with trusted people and wider services.

How do we support?

Our support could include:

Our SPACE – Group recovery support. Suitable for CYP who can safely participate in a closed-group setting and would benefit from reducing isolation, building peer connections, and developing positive social skills through a structured, evidence-based recovery programme.

My SPACE – Individual recovery support. Suitable for CYP who require more intensive, tailored support due to their experiences of DA, complex needs, or circumstances that make other means of support unsuitable or unsafe.

Their SPACE – Parent-led recovery support. Suitable for early years foundation stages (from birth to five years) or CYP who do not feel comfortable engaging with us directly but would benefit from support tools.

Confidentiality Our support for children and young people is confidential which means that information will not be shared outside of Manchester SPACE unless we are worried that a child may be unsafe or at risk of serious harm. Where this information is required to be shared, we will always try to explain clearly who that information will be shared with and what may happen next.

What does Manchester SPACE cost?

Manchester SPACE is currently funded by Manchester City Council and is free, for children who live in Manchester, to access.
