Free online Antenatal Course
Saint Mary's Hospital (North Manchester, Oxford Road, Wythenshawe) has a free antenatal course for anyone booked to have their baby at Saint Mary’s. The course lasts 4-5 weeks.
These courses are online via Microsoft Teams in the evenings (6-8PM) and are delivered by midwives and other specialists including health visitors.
You will be able to ask questions during the course.
The course talks about: -
- Labour – when to call a midwife, signs of labour, induction of labour, where to give birth.
- Birth – How to help yourself, pain relief, assisted birth, caesarean sections.
- Feeding your baby – All types of feeding, feeding a newborn, feeding safely
- Caring for yourself – Supporting your mental health, what to expect after a baby, support services in Manchester.
- Caring for your baby – Newborn development, bonding and attachment, practical parenting skills and basic care
To join this course, ask your midwife to complete a referral for you.
If you are booked onto a session, you will receive the Microsoft Teams link through your MyMFT or the MyChart app.
Free Face to Face antenatal course “Bump to Baby”
Face to Face antenatal classes called “Bump to Baby” are free at your local Children's centres and Family Hubs across Manchester.
The courses are delivered by health professionals and specialists from different services that can support you and your family.
The specialists will talk about: -
- Labour and birth
- Building a strong relationship with your baby
- Health and wellbeing
- Parenting skills
To book onto the course, please ask at your local Family Hubs or Children's centres.
Please note: If the online course with Saint Mary’s is fully booked you could have your contact details shared with the “Bump to Baby” team. The team will contact you to book you onto the Bump to Baby Course.
Your midwife will ask your permission to do this before your details are sent.
Saint Mary’s Birth centre Tours
You can take a tour of Saint Mary’s Birth centres at Wythenshawe (Manchester Birth Centre) and North Manchester (Bluebell Birth centre).
The tours are available twice weekly at each birth centre.
